The Into the Woods stellar cast just keeps getting better and better, and three of the most iconic Filipinas are mothering!
On Monday, January 27, Theatre Group Asia (TGA) revealed that one of the most celebrated actresses in film, theatre, and television is joining the cast of the stage production of Into the Woods. In a series of Instagram stories, TGA introduced her as a multi-awarded star and box-office royalty who will return to theatre after seven years.
The celebrated actress heading Into the Woods is none other than, Eugene Domingo, who will be playing the role of Jack’s Mother from Jack and the Beanstalk.
“A mother like no other! Eugene Domingo is heading Into the Woods as Jack’s Mother!” TGA said in its announcement on social media.
“Being one of the country’s most acclaimed actresses both on stage and on screen, we can’t wait for her to bring her unmatched talent to this beloved role. Prepare for a performance like no other when Into the Woods premieres this August!” it added.
While many know Eugene for playing quirky and comedic characters on screen, her relationship with theatre traces back to her time as a theatre major at the University of the Philippines (UP). As a member of the Dulaang UP, she’s seen it all, from selling tickets, ushering audiences to the auditorium, rehearsing lines, and learning from various actors and directors.
In 2012, the actress starred in the Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) stage adaptation of Lino Brocka’s “Bona.” She was also part of the 2018 production of “Night, Mother.” Seven years after her last casting on stage, Eugene is returning to the main stage alongside other iconic Filipinas like Filipino-American Broadway star Arielle Jacobs as Cinderella, and Tony Award-winner Lea Salonga as The Witch.
TGA revealed that Eugene will be joining the stellar cast, a week after they announced that Lea and Ariella will be a part of the theatre production’s cast.
A magical Into the Woods performance awaits the audience at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati, from August 7 to 24.
The musical production will have a limited engagement run of 18 performances. However, ticket details have yet to be announced.
