The European Union (EU) in the Philippines has donated €500,000 or equivalent to ₱30.3 million worth of assistance in support for the Filipino families in three Luzon areas, who have been suffering from the aftermath of Typhoon Egay.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the EU in the Philippines said the fund is specifically allocated for affected families and individuals in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The donation is expected to provide calamity-hit families with life-saving aid in the form of emergency shelter and shelter repair, clean water, and sanitation.

According to EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič, their humanitarian partners are presently in the affected areas to assess the needs and provide initial assistance.

"Without delay, we have initiated emergency relief efforts in close collaboration with our humanitarian partners to aid those affected during this challenging period. These efforts will complement and be done in coordination with ongoing national and local relief efforts,” he said.

As of Sunday, July 30, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that a total of 291,262 families or 1,029,724 individuals across 13 regions have been affected by Typhoon Egay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

Of this total, 9,540 or 36,370 are affected in the Ilocos region; 28,666 families or 95,618 individuals in Cagayan; and 94,318 families or 325,396 individuals in CAR.
