The National Privacy Commission (NPC) on Thursday said that a complaint may be filed against Senator Jinggoy Estrada for posting graduation photos of Bicol Saro Representative Terry Ridon and former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez.

Privacy Commissioner John Henry Naga explained that such disclosures may constitute a violation of the Data Privacy Act. Public officers found guilty of unauthorized disclosure of personal information may face penalties, including temporary or permanent disqualification from public office, and at least 500,000 cash penalty.

Estrada’s post showed Ridon’s yearbook photo, which included an address of one of the lawmaker’s relatives. A separate photo of Hernandez was also shared.

Naga stressed that even if the post was later deleted, a case could still be pursued if screenshots exist, as the personal data had already been exposed online.

Naga did not specify the exact case that may be filed against Estrada.

Ridon, who chairs the House infrastructure committee, said he hopes the issue can be settled quickly so Congress can focus on more pressing matters, particularly the ongoing inquiry into flood control projects.

Hernandez earlier served as a resource person in the House hearings, where he linked Estrada and Senator Joel Villanueva to alleged irregularities in DPWH’s flood control projects.
