Since the beginning of the pandemic, half of the barangays in Sorsogon have not reported a single case of COVID-19, according to Governor Francis Escudero.
Without mentioning exact figures, Escudero revealed that half of the province's 541 barangays remain untouched by the pandemic.
(In the province of Sorsogon, half of the barangays have never reported a case of COVID. Meaning to say, since 2020 when the pandemic began until now, they have no COVID cases.)
This is why the governor has been encouraging the Department of Education (DepEd) the reinstatement of face-to-face classes in the province, especially in the said barangays.
"Noon ko pa sinusulong sa DepEd na payagan ang face-to-face classes sa mga barangays tulad po niyan," he said.
(We have long been pushing the DepEd to allow face-to-face classes in those barangays.)
He stressed that in their province, there are areas purely implementing a modular scheme of learning due to slow internet connections and lack of gadgets for online classes.
(What will happen to the education of our countrymen? In addition, what will happen to their social skills on how they interact with those older than them and with other kids?)
As of March 5, Sorsogon has reported a total of 8,326 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, with 13 active cases.
