Senate President Francis Escudero believes that a Filipino national helped former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo escape from the Philippines.
"I do not believe Alice Guo's assertion that no other Filipino helped her for I am of the belief that there were other personalities, possibly officials in government other than the Bureau of Immigration, who helped her," Escudero said on Tuesday, September 10, in a statement.
During a Senate hearing last Monday, September 9, Guo denied that she received any help from a Filipino citizen when she left the Philippines last July.
Guo insisted that a foreign national helped her get out of the Philippines.
Escudero assured that the Philippine government will go after the 'non-Filipino actors' who facilitated the escape of Guo to Malaysia.
"However, non-Filipino actors who helped her escape should also be held to account, including the ones she had mentioned. That they are allegedly "not here" should not stop us from trying to get them, especially Alice Guo's financiers and bosses," Escudero stressed.
Guo refused to identify the person who helped her but wrote the name of the individual in a piece of paper upon the insistence of the senators.
The mayor also asked for an executive session but the senators refused her request.
Guo, who face charges for graft, returned to the Philippines last September 6, days after her arrest in Indonesia.
Prior to the arrest of Guo, Indonesian authorities also extradited her supposed sister, Shiela Guo, and Cassandra Ong, the alleged girlfriend of Wesley Guo, the supposed brother of the dismissed mayor.
Both Alice Guo, and Ong have been linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators that authorities raided in Bamban, and in Porac, Pampanga, respectively.
