Rep. Erwin T. Tulfo of the ACT-CIS Party-List filed a motion on Tuesday urging the House of Representatives to launch an investigation into the status of the implementation of Republic Act 11861, known as the "Expanded Solo Parents Act.
Tulfo stated in House Resolution 1150 that he has received several reports that the timely receipt of benefits by single parents has been hampered due to a lack of allotted funding to local government units (LGUs), particularly in some disadvantaged municipalities.
According to RA 11861, additional benefits for single parents must be provided, such as a PHP1,000 monthly allowance, a 10% discount and exemption from value added tax (VAT) on specified items, automatic coverage under the National Health Insurance Program, priority in re-entering the workforce, and priority and allocation in housing projects, subject to meeting the necessary requirements.
Tulfo also urged the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to ensure that business establishments around the country offer discounts to single parents.
He further asked private enterprises and government organizations to recruit single parents, not just because the law requires it but also "as Filipinos assisting a Filipino solo parent in raising his or her child or children solely.
