Filipino para swimmer Ernie Gawilan was unable to secure a podium finish in his third attempt, finishing his 2024 Paris Paralympics bid in sixth place.

Gawilan missed the chance to achieve the Philippines' first podium finish at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, ending up in sixth place in the Men’s 400m freestyle – S7 finals.

Gawilan recorded a time of 5 minutes and 3 seconds before wrapping up his third Paralympics stint.

Italy’s Federico Bicelli earned the gold medal with a time of 4:38.70, while Ukraine’s Andrii Trusov finished in second place at 4:40.17. Argentina's Inaki Basiloff secured the bronze medal with a time of 4:40.27.

Gawilan advanced to the finals of the men's 400m freestyle S7 event by finishing first in Heat 2 with a time of 5:00.13 on Tuesday, placing him third overall.

In the Tokyo Paralympics, Gawilan also clinched sixth place in the same event.

Meanwhile, another Filipino para swimmer, Angel Mae Otom, will aim to win a medal as she begins her campaign in the Women’s 50m Backstroke – S5 event, scheduled for today at 4:30 PM.
