The Turkish Embassy in the Philippines extended its gratitude to the Marcos administration for its deployment of a team that will help in the rescue operation following the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit Türkiye on Monday.
On Tuesday, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos said the Philippine government will deploy an 85-member contingent to Türkiye to help in rescue and relief operations there.
The country also sent engineers and health workers and provide other necessary assistance to the victims of the powerful quake.
In an interview, Turkish Ambassador to the Philippines Niyazi Akyol said they are "deeply moved by the contribution of the people and the government of the Philippines."
As of writing, the death toll rises above 15,000 in Turkey and Syria. Reports said that the 7.8 magnitude earthquake was Turkey’s most severe earthquake since 1999.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan earlier declared a state of emergency in 10 provinces.
