MANILA, Philippines – Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines ENDO Kazuya believes that environmental technologies can help in addressing current environmental challenges.
In his remarks during the opening of the 2nd Philippines-Japan Environment Week, Ambassador Endo underscored the vital role of Japan-Philippines cooperation in addressing environmental challenges through advanced environmental technologies.
On Tuesday (Jan. 14), Endo welcomed delegates and guests to the event, jointly hosted by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Makati City.
Also in attendance to open the event is DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga and Japan’s State Minister of the Environment KOBAYASHI Fumiaki.
In a media release, the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines mentioned that a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from the governments of Japan and the Philippines, local government units (LGUs), and the private sector, came together for the event.
“To promote a sustainable and resilient society, the program featured a series of presentations and booth exhibits addressing key topics such as climate change mitigation, waste management, and the circular economy,” the Embassy of Japan stated.
In an earlier media release, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines revealed that a total of 600 participants from a wide range of stakeholders from the Philippine and Japanese side are expected to attend the three-day event, with the aim of “building a decarbonized and resilient society.”
Together with the MOEJ and DENR, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce (PCCI), Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines, Inc. as its co-organizers, the focus is to seek opportunities for cooperation, business development and engagement throughout the Environment Week, the Embassy said.
During the main Environment Week program on January 14 and 15, business networking space is provided to create new business opportunities, find new business partners and expand their businesses between Philippine and Japanese companies/organizations, the Embassy added.
According to the Embassy, 20 to 30 Japanese and Philippine companies/organizations will showcase their technology and innovative business, facilitating business matchmaking.
The Second Philippines-Japan Environment Week is also supported by ASEAN-Japan Center, Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, Embassy of the Philippines in Japan, JETRO Manila Office, JICA Philippines Office, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cebu, Inc., Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Mindanao, Japan Platform for Redesign: Sustainable Infrastructure (JPRSI), Overseas Environment Cooperation Center (OECC), Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
