Chief presidential legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile on Wednesday called out Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor for his appearance at the meeting of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
In a Facebook post, Enrile questioned the presence of Defensor who was seen speaking to MMDA officials in a photo posted online.
“What was Mike Defensor doing in that picture of official function of Metro Manila Development Authority that was published in social media? Was he an official, a consultant, an adviser, a factotum of some sort of MMDA? He was a candidate and loser in the last election, wasn't he? What was he in that picture? The boss of MMDA? Is that now a proper decorum in our current political world?” he wrote.
Enrile suggested to be “very careful in carelessly showing an arrogance of power” in behavior as a public official under the current regime.
“Please ladies and gentlemen be careful! The public is watching,” he added.
In a follow-up Facebook post, Enrile said he is just fulfilling his “legal and moral duty” to protect President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as his legal counsel from those who take “advantage of his kindness and their seeming closeness to him”.
He warned that if the practice continues, they will be clashing with him.
“If you are authorized by the President, say so and I will abide by the decision of the President. Otherwise, we will clash,” he asserted.
