Following the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo earlier today,
Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. condemned the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo on Saturday, March 4.
His death comes just weeks after the attempted assassination of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. and the death of Aparri, Cagayan Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda.
At around 8:48 a.m., Degamo and his aides were shot inside his residence.
"Napapadalas na ah. Enough is enough," he said.
In his Facebook post, the senator condemned the latest act of lawlessness while criticizing authorities for the recent spate of violence against the Philippines' public servants.
"Kailangan ba nating paulit-ulit kondenahin ang ganito at ipaalala sa ating mga law enforcers na wala itong lugar sa ating lipunan?" Revilla asked.
"What are they doing? They must stop paying lip service and instead make sure they put an end to this kind of lawlessness. Parang pinaglalaruan na lang sila ng mga kriminal kasi," he bemoaned, clearly frustrated.
"Sa loob pa mismo ng kanyang tahanan! Ganito na ba tayo? Heads must roll!" he requested.
According to the soloist, this violence is an attack not only on the people who were targeted but also on the people who elected them to the office and on democracy itself.
"Hindi dapat hayaan ang ganitong mga atake sa demokrasya," the senator pointed out.
Meanwhile, Revilla expressed his condolences to the governor's bereaved family, promising to monitor the investigation and assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
