The "Emily in Paris" star Lily Collins and her husband Charlie McDowell welcomed the arrival of their first child through surrogacy, the actress shared in an Instagram post on Saturday, February 1.
A photo of their daughter, Trove, lying on a cushioned bassinet with Lily’s hand over her was shared via Instagram. In the caption, Lily expressed gratitude to their incredible surrogate and everyone who helped her and her husband.
“Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again…” she wrote in her caption.

Although the actress’ Instagram post was mostly filled with excitement and joy, some left comments against surrogacy. Charlie thanked people who left kind messages for the birth of their daughter and defended their decision on surrogacy.
“Thank you for all the kind messages and love. We are overjoyed and very grateful. In regards to the unkind messages about surrogacy and our path to having a baby— it’s ok to not be an expert on surrogacy. It’s ok to not know why someone might need a surrogate to have a child,” Charlie wrote in the comments.
“It’s ok to not know the motivations of a surrogate regardless of what you assume. And it’s ok to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially in regards to a beautiful baby girl who has brought a lot of love into people’s lives. That’s all for now because she just pooped and I need to change her diaper,” he ended.
Lily and Charlie confirmed their relationship in 2019 after sparking dating rumors. In 2020, they got engaged and tied the knot a year later.
Before starring in the popular series “Emily in Paris,” Lily starred in the romantic comedy film, “Love, Rosie,” and the fantasy comedy film “Mirror, Mirror.”
