Egg prices may bump up by 20%
by Jim Fernandez18 July 2024

The retail price of eggs will possibly rise by as much as 20% as schools open once more this July 29.

Based on the Department of Agriculture's (DA) Bantay Presyo (Price Watch) records, the price for medium-sized eggs will range from P5.50 to P9 per piece.

“The start of the ‘ber’ months normally triggers the season of high egg demand, and just like what I said before, also during the opening of classes,” stated DA Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa.

However, Philippine Egg Board Association President Francis Uyehara noted that some areas have already experienced price increases as chicken productions slow with worsening weather conditions, known as the "third quarter syndrome."

"A price increase has already started last month, and it might continue until the holiday season toward December," he said.
