An industry official said on Sunday that egg prices have increased due to the low supply and higher demand these “ber” months, adding up to P0.20 to P0.30 this week compared to last week.
According to the United Broiler Raisers Association and Philippine Egg Board Association chairman Gregorio San Diego, egg business owners were at a disadvantage as the eggs were low but the production costs were increasing, particularly the feeds, fuel, and electricity.
He also discussed in a radio interview the low supply of staple foods caused by the recent typhoons Egay and Goring, which have affected the poultry industry in the North.
It only means that the average farmgate price of a medium-sized egg is not at P6.55 compared to its previous price of P6.35.
Moreover, San Diego added that the limited egg supply may last until the first quarter of 2024.
