Typhoon Egay has intensified further and is now near to develop into super typhoon, according to the 5AM bulletin issued by PAGASA on Tuesday, July 25.

Egay was last spotted 350 kilometers East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, packing a maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometer per hour (kPh) near the center, gustiness of up to 215 kPh, and central pressure of 935 hPa.

PAGASA said it is accelerating west northwestward at the speed of 15 kPh and forecast to move northwestward before it cross Luzon Strait.

"EGAY is forecast to continue intensifying and reach super typhoon category within 12 hours, although the window of intensification for this typhoon is closing," it said.

The typhoon may pass very close or make landfall to Babuyan Island snortheastern mainland Cagayan area between late evening on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.

But noted that Egay may move slight northward or southward shift and may landfall in northern mainland Cagayan or Batanes.

Tropical Cyclone WInd Signal No. 3 is raised over the following areas:

  • Babuyan Islands
  • the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Peñablanca, Gattaran, Lal-Lo, Alcala,
  • Santa Teresita, Buguey, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Ballesteros, Allacapan, Abulug, Claveria, Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Santa Praxedes, Lasam, Baggao, Amulung, Iguig)
  • the northeastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan)
  • the northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna, Santa Marcela, Flora, Pudtol)

Meanwhile, the areas are under TCWS No. 2:

  • Batanes
  • the rest of mainland Cagayan
  • the rest of Isabela, Quirino

PAGASA raised gale warning over seaboards of Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas and eastern seaboards of Central Luzon and Northeastern Mindanao.

It advised mariners and small seacraftrs to avoid sea travel as the seas may have be rough high or very high.

"In the next 24 hours, EGAY will also bring moderate to rough seas (2.0 to 3.5 m) over the coastal waters outside the Gale Warning area along the western, northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao," the state weather brueau said.

In the next three days, PAGASA also said that southwest moonsoon or habagat, enhanced by typhoon Egay, will bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portions of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas.
