Billiards legend Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes experienced an early exit from the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games ending his six-year medal streak in the men’s three-cushion carom singles event.
Reyes was defeated by Cambodia’s Woo Donghoon in the round of 16 at the AEON Mall on Tuesday with a score of 15-40.
This marks Reyes’ first on-medal finish since his withdrawal from the English billiards singles and doubles with Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante in 2017.
Reyes had secured consecutive one-cushion carom bronzes in the last two SEA Games.
Unfortunately, other Filipino pool players, including Carlo Biado and Johann Chua, were also unable to advance to the semi-final rounds of their men’s nine-ball event.
In the women’s three-cushion carom, Pinay players Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
However, Francisco dela Cruz remains a hopeful contender in the men’s three-cushion caroman was able to surpass Thailand to move to the last eight.
