The EDSA Busway – Philam station wheelchair ramp will be temporarily closed to the public to give way for improvements, the Metro Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Saturday.
According to Atty. Romando Artes, the acting MMDA Chairman, the temporary closure will last for at least two months and this would result to an installation of a wheelchair platform lift.
The contractor of the wheelchair ramp in question took an initiative to pledge the installment of the alternative lift for free.
MMDA assured that no other expenses will come upon the improvements being set for the ramp.
On July 18, the MMDA received criticisms from the netizens, pointing out the steepness of the controversial ramp making it unsafe for persons with disabilities (PWD).
The MMDA admitted the ‘imperfect’ design of the ramp but still reiterated that it will be of huge help to senior citizens, pregnant, and other PWDs not needing to climb the stairs.
