Filipina tennis standout Alex Eala saw her singles campaign end in the Round of 16 of the BNP Paribas Open after falling to World No. 14 Linda Noskova in straight sets, 2–6, 0–6, on Wednesday (Philippine time) in Indian Wells, California.
Noskova, the 21-year-old Czech athlete, needed only 55 minutes to dispatch the Filipina netter and secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the prestigious WTA tournament.
The Czech quickly asserted control of the match, breaking Eala early in the opening set to build momentum. Noskova’s powerful groundstrokes and consistent service kept the Filipina on the defensive, allowing the higher-ranked player to comfortably claim the first set, 6–2.
Momentum continued to favor Noskova in the second set as she dominated from the baseline and capitalized on key break opportunities. Eala struggled to find rhythm against the Czech’s aggressive play, resulting in a swift 6–0 finish.
Despite the loss, the Round of 16 finish marks another notable run for the 20-year-old Filipina, who continues to gain valuable experience competing against top-ranked players on the WTA Tour.
