DZRH wins Radio Station of the Year; Deo Macalma bags Radio Broadcaster of the Year at MOPC Journalism Awards

DZRH bagged two big awards in the Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC) Journalism Awards held at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

DZRH, the flagship AM station of the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) and the oldest radio station in the Philippines, won the "Radio Station of the Year 2023".

"For over 84 years of radio broadcasting excellence and remarkable work in delivering the latest news, insightful analysis, and unwavering public service, validating radio's role as the true medium of people. It is today the No. 1 AM station in Metro and Mega Manila," the citation in the trophy reads.

"Lakay" Deo Macalma, one of the hosts of DZRH programs "Damdaming Bayan" and "Breaktime", also won big as he bagged the "Radio Broadcaster of the Year".

"For four decades of excellent radio work, on the spot fair and balanced reporting, clear-minded analysis and dedicated public service. His top-rated Damdaming Bayan and Breaktime drew a loyal and large following for the informative news as well as his humor," the citation in the trophy stated.

The two awards were conferred by MOPC chairman Antonio Lopez, MOP chair Jimmie Policarpio, and MOPC President Eric Canoy.

MOPC has been active since 1945 and it is regarded as the oldest press club in the Philippines and in Asia.
