It is not President Rodrigo Duterte's intention to build a political dynasty, specifically in his hometown Davao City.
He made the statement during the miting de avance on Friday of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) in Davao City.
Di 'yan ang intensyon ko," Duterte originally said in Visayan dialect.
[You elected me as your mayor for how many years. Inday and I are just rotating, not because we want a political dynasty. I know the situation of being solo in the government. That is not my intention.]
[That is why after I became a mayor, I looked for someone to replace me. But those barangay captains, you pushed for my daughter.]
The Duterte family has been ruling Davao City since 2001.
After the President finished his term as Mayor of the town in 2016, he was replaced by his daughter, Sara, who is now gunning for vice president together with her running mate, presidential bet Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
Duterte's youngest son, Baste, is currently running as the Davao City mayor in the upcoming local elections.
