The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) observed a decrease in rice prices in the last two months.
DTI Asec. Agaton Uvero attributed the drop to sufficient supply of local rice, and to an increase in imports due to Executive Order No. 62.
The order, which took effect last July, lowered the tariffs on imported rice from 35 percent to 15 percent.
"Mababa rin yung tax sa mga imported kaya naapektuhan, bumababa yung presyo ng bigas," Uvero said on Friday, September 20, during a price and supply inspection at Farmer's Market in Cubao, Quezon City.
