Secretary Rex Gatchalian has stated to work with the newly appointed Presidential Adviser Poverty Alleviation Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon to strengthen Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD)’s anti-poverty campaign.
“So, we look forward to working with Presidential Adviser Larry Gadon,” the DSWD chief said in a News Forum on Saturday, noting that Gadon could contribute to achieving the government’s poverty alleviation goals.
Gadon, who was nominated as a presidential adviser last month, declared that he would concentrate on developing micro-industries to create jobs for Filipinos and that he would fight for the "BBM: Batang Busog, Malusog" nutrition program to help combat poverty.
“Nagpapatunay lamang ito ng ang mga opisyales ng mga sangay ng pamahalaan ay nagkakaisa sa layunin ng ating Presidente BBM at nagkakaisa sa adbokasiya ng pagtulong sa ating mga kababayan na nasa antas ng kahirapan,” the presidential adviser told reporters during a phone interview.
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDDS), Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), Listahanan or National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction, and Unconditional Transfer Program were among the DSWD's programs aimed at alleviating poverty.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated in his inaugural State of the Nation Address that his administration aimed to lower the prevalence of poverty to "9% or single-digit poverty rate by 2028."
