6,482 family food packs (FFP) have been donated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to families forced from their residences by extensive flooding in Northern Samar.
So far, families from Allen, Victoria, and Lavezares towns have been reached.
DSWD Eastern Visayas Regional Information Officer Jonalyndie Chua assured on Tuesday that the social welfare department is hastening FFP deliveries to local government units (LGU) whose areas have been greatly impacted by floods. The LGUs, in turn, will see to the distribution of these packs among its constituents.
The food packs consist of six kilos of rice, two cans of tuna flakes, two cans of sardines, four cans of corned beef, as well as five sachets of coffee and another five sachets of energy drinks—which comes in at ₱500 per pack.
The department has expended about ₱4.67 million in FFPs and nonfood commodities.
For the typhoon victims in Eastern Visayas, relief goods collectively worth ₱131.20 million have been made available.
“There is an ongoing coordination and monitor of the quick response team of the DSWD to ensure that all affected families get assistance if needed,” Chua said.
Up to 27,137 families from 200 villages in Northern and Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran have been uprooted from their homes.
