DSWD to implement full-scale food stamp program in December
by Ada Pelonia20 October 2023

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) revealed on Wednesday, Oct. 18, its plan to implement a food stamp program in December.

“Right now, we are doing the pilot implementation. Three thousand families sa loob ng limang pilot sites ang ating target, and we will go full blast sa pilot implementation come December,” DSWD Undersecretary for Innovations Eduardo Punay told reporters.

DSWD’s plan was based on their WALANG GUTOM 2027: Food Stamp Program (FSP) that would provide food to poor families.

This was in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Executive Order (EO) No. 44, earlier declaring the FSP as a program hinged on the current administration.

“By declaring [this] a priority program, we are assured of funding next year, so makakasama po ito sa General Appropriations Act – sa national budget next year. Secondly, and very important, is yung participation ng other agencies kasi through the EO, which is institutionalizing the program, DSWD is assured of support from other agencies,” he added.

FSP beneficiaries must attend the monthly Nutrition Education Sessions as a condition to receive their P3000-worth food credit.
