Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sec. Rex Gatchalian vowed to address the issue of long lines at the central office of the agency along Batasan Road in Quezon City.
Gatchalian said on Tuesday, February 21, that DSWD plans to use two nearby covered courts as sub-sites and holding areas for people seeking assistance from the government.
"Doon sila maghihintay. Lahat iyon may silya, my upuan. In fact, i-process na sila doon, yung first step, yung validation. Then may bus para sa kanila pabalik sa DSWD," Gatchalian said during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
"Papabuksan ko na yung isa. Yung isang court kasi patapos na talaga yung details niya. I think hindi na natin kailangan patagalin pa, bubuksan natin iyon. That court alone can handle around 300," he assured.
Gatchalian explained that the DSWD main office only has a limited sitting capacity, which forces some people to wait outside the building.
The DSWD chief said that the agency also plans to launch satellite sites throughout Metro Manila in order to lessen the number of aid seekers going to the main office.
DSWD will also open satellite offices in the provinces of Rizal and Bulacan.
