The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation of EDSA, following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as part of the government’s key infrastructure projects for the year.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan mentioned that enhancing the riding quality on EDSA, the country’s busiest highway, is a key priority for the Marcos administration.

Additionally, the rehabilitation is expected to be completed within this year.

“Ang gusto ni Presidente dapat we have to improve actually ‘yung riding quality of EDSA. We will rehabilitate the entire EDSA starting 2025,” Bonoan stated.

“Kasi sa ngayon dumaan ka sa EDSA kung minsan nahihirapan kang mag-text sa kakakalbog ng sasakyan. So, I think it’s about time that we need to rehabilitate EDSA once and for all,” he added.

Moreover, the EDSA rehabilitation initiative is poised to fix longstanding problems with the highway and offer a smoother, more efficient commute for millions of Filipinos.

In addition to rehabilitating the country’s busiest thoroughfare, the DPWH is also set to carry out other significant infrastructure projects, including a bridge in Zamboanga Sibugay that will link the Zamboanga Peninsula to Olutanga Island.

Furthermore, one more major project slated for completion this year is the Central Luzon Expressway (CLLEX), which will establish a direct link between Tarlac and Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija.

Bonoan explained that the 30- to 40-kilometer expressway will provide a direct route, allowing motorists to avoid the longer detour when traveling from Tarlac to Nueva Ecija.

These developments are expected to drive economic growth, improve connectivity, and enhance the quality of life for all Filipinos.
