The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has confirmed to start the construction of the P175 billion Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project this year.
"Detailed engineering [design] is now ongoing—it’s about 70 percent complete and we told the President it will be ready within the year to ground break the implementation of this very significant bridge," DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said during the press briefing in the Malacañang Palace on Tuesday, March 14.
The construction of the 32-kilometer project, which will link Barangay Timalan, Naic, Cavite, and Barangay Alas-asin in Mariveles, Bataan, will be funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project is expected to be finished after 5 years before the Marcos administration ends.
Bonoan also underlined the significance of the project in the country's economic growth.
"No less than the Asian Development Bank has indicated that the economic rate of return of this bridge is more than 25 percent and that’s big, that’s really big," he added.
The bridge will reduce the travel time between the provinces of Bataan and Cavite to 20 to 30 minutes, from its original five-hour travel.
