The Department of Public Works and Highways - National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) looks into the expansion of a mall in Para&ntilde;aque City in relation to the 'carmageddon' experienced by motorists on Thursday, July 13, along the South Luzon Expressway.
The said activity allegedly clogged the drainage system which resulted to floods that caused heavy traffic.
"Tinitignan namin ito ngayon kasi ito ay na-report sa amin kahapon na meron expansion na nangyari at natamaan yung ating drainage," said DPWH-NCR director Loreta Malaluan on Friday, July 14, during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
Malaluan said that DPWH-NCR will summon the management of the mall to explain.
Skyway O&amp;M Corp., the operator of South Metro Manila Skyway Project, apologized to motorists affected by the flooding in Skyway At Grade (ground level) Bicutan in Para&ntilde;aque City.
In a statement, Skyway O&amp;M Corp. blamed the incident to a drainage system problem outside of the Skyway system, which the operator traced last February, due to ongoing construction works in the area.
"Historically, this portion of the Skyway System has remained flood-free and we have consistently strived to maintain a smooth and reliable traffic flow for our valued users," the Skyway operator said.
"Our maintenance teams conduct regular inspections at the drainage system to remove all obstructions such as sludge and garbage. But over the past few months, the rise in floodwaters at the carriageway has become evident," the company added.
