LTO Chief Asec. Vigor Mendoza confirmed on Tuesday that the vehicles involved in the multiple-vehicle crash that occurred along Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, last December have not received any financial assistance from an insurance provider.
Interviewed during Dos Por Dos, Mendoza explained that the Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) insurance is a mandatory coverage for all motor vehicles. It is required by the LTO before a vehicle can be registered.
The LTO Chief said that the insurance company covers ₱100,000, which will be shared by all the vehicles involved, noting that there were four fatalities and approximately 20 injured individuals.
Mendoza stated that the LTO is continuing its coordination with the Insurance Commission to facilitate assistance for the victims.
The agency also called for the establishment of a 24/7 hotline where accident victims can call to avoid a repeat of this incident, where victims reportedly did not know where to seek assistance.
On December 5, 2024, there were 16 motorcycles, five four-wheeled vehicles, one bus, and a truck involved in the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m.
The truck driver fled the scene after the accident. However, authorities were able to arrest him early Friday morning.
