The Meralco Ave. in Pasig is set to close down starting Oct. 3 until 2028 to give way for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) - Shaw Boulevard Station, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Sunday, Aug. 12.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the DOTr said the road closure will cover the front section of Capitol Commons up to the corner of Shaw Boulevard.
It advised motorists to avoid the north and southbound portions of Meralco Ave. and take alternative routes.
The alternative lanes created by DOTr in coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the City Governments of Pasig and Mandaluyong are as follows:
- Public Utility Jeeps (PUJs) from Meralco going to Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted from Captain Henry Javier St. to Danny Floro St. and vice versa.
- Modernized Jeepneys from Meralco going to Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted to Dona Vargas Ave. to San Miguel Ave and vice versa.
- UV Express Vehicles/Units from Meralco going to Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted to Dona Vargas Ave. to San Miguel Ave or Anda Road to Camino Verde.
- Private vehicles will be able to access the available routes mentioned above.
The MMSP dubbed as the “Project of the Century“ began in 2019 during the Duterte administration.
The project funded by the Japanese government aims to reduce the travel time from Valenzuela in Quezon City and Ninoy International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City from 1 hour and 30 minutes, to just 35 minutes.
The transportation department said once it is operational in 2028, it will serve 370,000 passengers daily across eight cities in Metro Manila.
