Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Cesar Chavez on Wednesday said he was "informed" that he was among the choices to be the next press secretary following the resignation of Trixie Cruz-Angeles.
"I was informed that I am being considered for the position," Chavez revealed after he was asked about the position in an interview with ANC.
"I’m even surprised to be included in the list. There are more qualified, highly qualified [people] for that position. I expressed no interest in that position," he added.
Chavez did not disclose who from the Office of the President informed him about being considered for the vacant post.
When asked if he would accept the offer, Chavez said he is still thinking about it and discussing it with his family. But he believes that he "can be of more service to the country if I focus on the railway sector."
Before his stint in the current administration, Chavez was the station manager of the oldest radio station in the country DZRH.
He also served as the chief of staff of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, but resigned from the post in October 2021 due to health reasons.
