The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday turned over social housing units to families who are affected by the construction of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Extension Project in San Fernando, Pampanga.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista together with other DOTr officials and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) officials led the turnover of 50 Project Affected Households (PAHs).
Each individual received a plaque or certificate for the social housing units.
"During the event, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista underscored that the project’s aim goes beyond enhancing the connectivity— it also envisions to upraise the lives of the people," the transportation department said in a statement posted on Facebook.
"He also remarked that this is just a ‘first’ of the many more initiatives that are set to be carried out, to ensure that no family gets left behind and everyone will benefit—from housing to livelihood," it added.
The NSCR Extension project, worth P873 billion, aims to shorten the travel period from Buendia in Makati to Clark International Airport in Pampanga, from 4.5 hours to 2 hours.
Once completed by 2045, the project is expected to serve one million passengers daily.
The NSCR Extension is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Asian Development Bank (ADB).
