Upon closely examining the conditions of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) commute once again, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced its plans to remove the x-ray scanners in MRT stations and replace them with added security measures in order to shorten passenger queues.
According to Transport Secretary Vince Dizon, forming two separate lines for passengers carrying bags to be scanned and those without moderately sped up entry, proving the adjustment effective.
Alongside Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda, who accompanied Dizon during his inspection of the MRT, the agency is looking into the removal of x-ray scanners, which was identified as the cause of long lines.
However, Dizon explained that enhanced security measures would be introduced in the place of the inspection device. Instead of scanners, more high-tech CCTV cameras will be installed and additional security personnel posted in every station.
“Magdadagdag tayo ng visibility ng security forces. Kung magagawa natin ito, matatanggal na ang mga x-ray. Ito kasi ang cause kung bakit bumabagal ang pasok ng mga kababayan natin (sa loob ng istasyon),” Dizon told DZRH in an interview.
Moreover, starting on Monday, four more cars will be added to the MRT trains for the peak hours.
These changes, Dizon said, are in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the daily commute is safe and convenient for Filipinos.
