Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday, June 16 announced the immediate dismissal of two high-ranking officials from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Cagayan Valley following an alleged assault incident in Tuguegarao City.
RH 5 Val Gonzales reported that Secretary Dizon revealed that LTO Region 2 Assistant Regional Director Manuel Baricaua and Chief Enforcement Officer Charles Ursulum were both relieved of their positions after reportedly physically assaulting a young female singer, her mother, and two companions.
“Nandito kami dapat para magbigay ng serbisyo at tulungan ang mga kababayan natin para hindi para manakit, hindi para mang-abuso, hindi para maghari-harian,” Dizon said in a press conference in East Avenue, Quezon City.
“We are the people servants, not their Lords, paulit-ulit na sinasabi ‘yan at kung mayroon kahit na isang opisyal in any agency under the DOTr na hindi sumunod sa utos ng pangulo, pasensyahan na lang,” he added.
The transportation chief also confirmed that criminal charges for physical assault will be filed against Baricaua and Ursulum.
Dizon further stated that he has already written to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, recommending the permanent dismissal of the two LTO officials from government service.
