The Department of Transportation–MRT-3 management has apologized after an unauthorized sign was posted at Shaw Boulevard Station, which circulated on social media and caused confusion among commuters.
In an official statement dated February 9, MRT-3 said the sign was immediately taken down after authorities learned about it, stressing that it “does not reflect the official position of the transport agency.” The agency emphasized that “the convenience of the commuters is always our paramount concern and priority.”
MRT-3 clarified that the signage was unnecessary in the first place since “all escalators are operational,” and that it was merely the initiative of a station supervisor that was not sanctioned by management and poorly communicated, leading to misunderstanding among passengers.
“We sincerely apologize for this. There was never any intention to invalidate or diminish the commuters’ experiences or concerns,” the statement read, adding that issues on accessibility, comfort, and safety are taken seriously by the agency.
Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez and MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati have also issued strict instructions that any reported escalator malfunction must be addressed immediately, with repairs prioritized to avoid disruption.
MRT-3 assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining its facilities and improving the overall commuting experience, underscoring that the comfort, safety, and trust of the riding public remain its foremost priorities.
