Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista on Thursday revealed that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has set aside a budget for the government's "Libreng Sakay" program until December this year.
Bautista made the statement in an interview with another media outlet when asked if there will be enough funds to sustain the subsidized program until the year ends.
During his first full day as the Chief Executive, Marcos announced the extension of free rides at the EDSA Bus Carousel until December 2022 and free train rides for students from August 22 to November 4.
When asked if the free bus ride program will be again extended beyond December 2022, Bautista said, “Sa ngayon po, ang Libreng Sakay up to December 31, 2022 lang po."
Under the Libreng Sakay program, the government hires buses to provide free rides to commuters.
On Wednesday, Vice President Sara Duterte launched her office's Peak Hours Augmentation Bus Service Libreng Sakay Program.
