The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has approved the petition of the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) to increase the fares in Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2.
The news was announced by DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista during a press conference on Tuesday, April 11.
"This was approved by my office on March 27, 2023, and we reported this to the President," he told the reporters.
Based on the newly-released fare adjustment table, boarding fares in both LRT lines increased by ₱2.29 while the distance fare rose by ₱0.21.
With this increase, boarding fare is now ₱13.29 from the previous ₱11. The distance fare, meanwhile, is now ₱1.21 per kilometer from ₱1.00.

However, despite the approval, Bautista said the fare hike will not be implemented for now in accordance with President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.'s directive.
"The instruction of the President is to reassess the date of implementation for us to be able to determine the impact on inflation since 'yung inflation rate has also got up in the last 2 months," he said.
