The Department of Transportation (DOTr) upheld a meeting on Friday, September 8 to activate an Inter-Agency Task Force following an email of a bomb threat at MRT-3 station.
The Task Force is composed of the DOTr Office for Transportation Security (OTS), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center, Philippine National Police (PNP), and Railway Security.
"The task force was immediately directed to enhance security measures to ensure security deployment in all transportation sectors," the DOTr said in a statement released on Friday signed by Undersecretary Mao Aplasca (OTS), Undersecretary Cesar Chavez (DOTr), Undersecretary Alex Ramos of the Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center, DICT, and Brig. Gen. Director Redrico Maranan.
"We are taking the necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of the riding the public," the statement read.
The DOTr appealed to netizens to refrain from circulating and sharing unverified information so as not to cause undue panic.
Meanwhile, the task force assured the commuters that they are "taking all actions to ensure safe and secure travel in all public transport systems."
"We are conducting continuous assessment as to the credibility of the threat as basis for our next action," said the statement.
