MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Tourism (DOT) expressed its “sincere appreciation” to the country’s law enforcement agencies and the Bureau of Immigration (BI), for its swift and decisive action in arresting a foreign individual involved in harassing Filipinos in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
In a statement, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco underscored the government’s unwavering determination in upholding the nation’s laws and ensuring public safety, in line with the commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of every Filipino.
“As the Philippines warmly welcomes guests from around the world, it is essential that they respect our people and our culture, and comply with our laws during their stay,” Frasco stated.
“The Philippines is renowned for its friendly and hospitable people, and this is a key part of the unique Philippine experience that we offer to travelers. It is imperative that this generosity is met with respect,” Frasco added.
Frasco further said that the DOT condemns any form of abusive behavior by tourists, whether it is disrespecting the local culture or violating the rights of individuals.
Russian vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy was arrested earlier for “harassing Filipinos” in BGC, Taguig City, after he was classified by the BI as an “undesirable foreign national” through BI Operations Order No. SBM-2014-048.
His social media posts went viral over the past week for disrespecting Filipino passersby, harassing security guards and traffic personnel.
Zdorovetskiy is currently under the custody of the BI in Intramuros for documentation and proper disposition.
According to the BI, his arrest is part of the government's continued efforts to ensure public safety and maintain order.
