The Department of Tourism (DOT) honored on Tuesday late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. for his contributions to Philippine tourism as the agency celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The posthumous plaque was received by his son, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
The late former president contributions to Philippine tourism were recognized by the DOT as "very significant, primarily in the creation of the Department of Tourism 50 years ago."
The agency also acknowledged Marcos Sr.'s Presidential Decree No. 189, which established the agency on May 11, 1973.
"The Presidential Order primarily mandates the realignment of government efforts toward trade and promotion and tourism development, likewise to tap the country’s resources toward an accelerated socio-economic development of the Philippines," DOT said.
During the event, the DOT introduced its new tourist tagline, "Love the Philippines," which replaces the decade-old "It's More Fun in the Philippines" a campaign launched by the Aquino government.
The tourism department launched 'Love the Philippines' as an "improved" tourism campaign.
According to the President, the tourism campaign strives to improve the traveler's experience by promoting regional products and encouraging "green movements."
