President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his support for the Department of Tourism's (DOT) tourism development strategy.
In a tweet last Wednesday, Marcos congratulated the DOT on its 50th anniversary and praised the agency for effectively promoting the country's tourism business.
"There are countless reasons to #LoveThePhilippines! Together, let us become ambassadors and influencers of tourism in our country," Marcos said.
He said that the administration is committed to the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) for 2023–2028, which aspires to turn the Philippines into a tourism superpower.
The DOT targets goals such as promoting regional products, expanding infrastructure for easier travel, and encouraging green movements.
The NTDP for 2023–2028 was approved in March of this year.
Marcos' tweet came on the same day that Albay Rep. Joey Salceda raised dissatisfaction with the DOT's promotional video which excluded Mayon Volcano, a tourist attraction in Albay province.
The video was shown at the introduction of the country's new tourism branding, "Love the Philippines" on Tuesday.
Following the introduction of the "Love the Philippines" campaign, the DOT informed the public that the government is working to fix tourism-related issues.
Some netizens were quick to criticize it, pointing out flaws in tourism-related services such as aircraft delays and unexpected cancellations.
