Former US President Donald Trump was rushed off stage by the United States Secret Service after gunshots were heard at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 14.
Trump sustained an injury to his right ear and was immediately escorted to a vehicle by the Secret Service.
The Republican candidate for president had been addressing his supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania when gunshots erupted. Before exiting the stage, Trump raised his fist and shouted ‘fight’.
Secret Service said in a statement that the former president is safe following the shooting incident.
“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” Donald Trump's spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.
An attendee of the rally was dead and another person was left in a critical condition.
The Homeland Security condemns the act of violence in "the strongest possible terms" and commended the Secret Service for their fast action on the scene.
"We are engaged with President Biden, former President Trump, and their campaigns, and are taking every possible measure to ensure their safety and security," Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement on X.
Donald Trump extended his appreciation to the United States Secret Service and Law Enforcers for their immediate response on the incident.
He also extended his condolences to the families of the individuals killed and severely injured.
In his statement, Trump confimed that a bullet pierced through the upper part of his right ear.
"I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin," Trump said in his official statement.
"Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening," he added.
The gunman was killed based on authorities' reports.
