The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced on Wednesday, November 3, that the closure of the Dolomite beach at Manila Bay to the public will continue in order to give way for the completion of the rehabilitation and expansion works in the man-made beach.
The five-day closure started on October 29 in observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
According to Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and International Affairs Jonas R. Leones, the closure will allow DENR to finish the pending rehabilitation works in the Dolomite beach as well as improve the fecal coliform level of the waters of Manila Bay,
The Manila Bay Dolomite beach reopened on Oct 16 and has faced staunch criticisms due to the overcrowding concerns which totaled 322, 718 visitors including minors who are not allowed to go out at that time.
The incidents were deemed unimaginable amidst the CoVid-19 pandemic.
Undersecretary for Solid Waste Management and Local Government Units Concerns Benny Antiporda said in a press conference that they are aiming to finish the said rehabilitation within the year.
