The Department of Justice (DOJ) has been instructed to deliver the full weight of the law against the recently captured Chinese spy and his Filipino accomplices.
“When the sovereignty of the Filipino people is endangered and placed under tremendous risk, the full force of the law must be enforced without compromise or leniency,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated.
In a statement, Remulla promised a “diligent and meticulous” prosecution.
The suspect and his two local associates were made to appear publicly during a joint press conference with the DOJ, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
One of the Filipino associates served as the suspect’s driver, and the second as his assistant.
AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. revealed that they pursued intelligence-gathering efforts at Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites, information from which, such as coordinates and topography, could have military “targeting” purposes.
The DOJ prosecutors will be using the alleged spy equipment as evidence against the suspects to prove a reasonable certainty of conviction.
