The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will sit down to discuss the anti-illegal drugs campaign of the national government.
DOJ Sec. Menardo Guevarra confirmed that he will meet with PNP chief PGen. Guillermo Eleazar 'in the next few days' following the directive given by President Rodrigo Duterte during the 76th general assembly of the United Nations.
In the his speech during the UN general assembly on Wednesday, September 22, President Duterte said that he has instructed the DOJ and the PNP to review the conduct of the campaign against illegal drugs in the Philippines.
President Duterte also assured that Philippines will hold accountable all law enforcement units who 'have acted beyond bounds' during anti-illegal drug operations
"His instruction to the DOJ and the PNP to review the conduct of the campaign against illegal drugs, together with the succeeding statement that those found to have acted beyond bounds during operations shall be made accountable before our laws, is a clear directive to pursue with greater vigor the ongoing review of drug death cases and to commence legal actions if found warranted," Guevarra said in a message to reporters.
DOJ announced last August that the agency has completed its reports on 52 cases involving law enforcement officers who face charges due to alleged lapses in anti-illegal drug operations.
