by Ada Pelonia12 October 2023

The Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed Wednesday, Oct. 11, the names of three Department of Agriculture (DA) officials who were allegedly involved in hoarding and smuggling of onions that led to skyrocketing prices of onion last year.

In a press briefing, Justice Sec. Boying Remulla said that graft and corruption charges will be filed against DA Asec. Kristine Evangelista, DA - Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) officers-in-charge Junibert de Sagun, and DA Usec. Glenn Panganiban.

Remulla said the three officials will also face administrative cases over their “inefficiency” and “incompetence.”

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) earlier filed complaints against six individuals allegedly involved in onion smuggling and profiteering.
