Officials of the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday announced that it will launch a probe on the discovery of the remains of a missing inmate or person deprived of liberty (PDL) from an open septic tank at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin 'Boying' Remulla stated that the detainee who had been reported missing since July 15 had already been found.
He said that their office is investigating what occurred and expects a complete report from Bureau of Corrections Chief Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. before the end of the day.
Remulla added that there will be more discoveries about the result of the investigation in the coming days when they make an announcement.
PDL Michael Angelo Cataroja went missing earlier this month, forcing jail officials to seek assistance from Coast Guard cadaver recovery canine units.
Officials expect to collect further components that will allow them to definitively identify the head.
