The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday said it will file criminal charges against alleged drug trafficker Jose Adrian 'Jad' Dera for his illegal excursion from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility.

In a press briefer, DOJ said it will file violation of Article 156 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), or the infidelity in the custody of prisoners against Dera filed before the Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) in Manila.

NBI Security Officer III Randy Godoy will likewise be charged with the same criminal raps.

The following NBI Job Order personnel, who accompanied Dera in his unlawful escape, will face violation of RPC Article 156 or the delivery of prisoners from jail.

  • Arnel Ganzon
  • Diana Rose Novelozo
  • Lee Eric Loreto
  • King Jeroh Martin
  • Pepe Piedad Jr.

"After evaluation of the evidence, the assigned prosecutor found sufficient evidence to hold the respondents for trial. There is probable cause in finding that Dera induced Godoy, Ganzon, Novelozo Loreto, Martin, and Piedad to assist him in escape from prison and that Godoy, Ganzon, Novelozo, Loreto, Martin, and Piedad facilitated the escape of Dera from his detention facility," the order reads.

On June 20, authorities caught Dera leaving the NBI detention cell.

The DOJ said ₱101,000 cash was retrieved from the inmate which he may have used for the payment for his escape.

Dera earlier admitted to Senators that he was able to go in and out of the NBI facility several times.

But he denied the allegation that he paid "hundreds of thousands" to go outside and obtain other special privileges while staying inside NBI cell.

Following his arrest, he was transferred to Muntinlupa City Jail Male Dormitory in Brgy. Tunasan as ordered by the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 204 last July 4.
