The first batch of families of deceased retired prosecutors received the survivorship benefits from the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday.

Under the Act Granting Survivorship Benefits to the Surviving Legitimate Spouse and Dependent Children of a Deceased Retired Member of the National Prosecution Service (NPS) or the Republic Act (RA) No. 11643, families of qualified prosecutors are given eligibility to receive survivorship benefits that cover the accrued retirement benefits that a deceased prosecutor was to receive if he/she were still alive.

According to DOJ, around 25 qualified families received the benefits in the form of checks covered from January 1 to July 31, 2024. However, only those who are the legitimate surviving spouse, dependent child/children of the qualified prosecutor, legal guardian, or the duly authorized representative of the qualified beneficiary/ies recognized by the act’s implementing rules and regulations (IRR) are the only ones allowed to file claims.

The claims may be filed before the Personnel Division of the DOJ or in any regional, provincial, and city Prosecution Office near the families’ residence upon submission of all requirements needed. Relatives are encouraged to submit the necessary documents in the office, as online filing is only granted to those in the pre-evaluation phase of the application.
