The Department of Health (DOH) said that 50 million Filipinos have not yet to receive their first booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire, the Philippines only have 26%, out of all the eligible population, are vaccinated with the first booster shot.
Vergeire urged eligible individuals to get their booster shots to protect themselves against the viral disease.
She added that 50 million Filipinos who do not have their first booster shot yet can have their critical illnesses due to the virus and that is not what they want to happen.
Based on the DOH's vaccination dashboard, a total of 73,821,941 people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while only 21,102,493 individuals have been boosted as of December 6.
Vergeire said getting booster shot can prevent hospitals fom being overcrowded, reminding the public that the protection from the first two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine wanes over time.
